The 17th

Song Biography: This is a song I’m releasing as the first single off my upcoming EP – “No”, which is a body of work that depicts my experience of life after being raped a year ago through layers of lush electronic vocal production and heartfelt songwriting. It will be released on all online platforms (spotify/apple music/etc) on 09.17.2020. This single is a juxtaposition between the content and the sound. The track sounds like a celebration, with upbeat drums and triumphant vocals. Sitting between, Kimbra and Casey Musgraves, this song feels up-lifting. The content, however, describes the turmoil of recovery on the year anniversary of being raped. Mixed together, the content and sound of “The 17th” show how strong and beautiful you can be, in the face of trauma. The 17th Written, produced and performed by AL Riordan Mixed by AL Riordan and Emerson Adams-Jackson Mastered by Alexander Wright

Lyrics:

It’s been 12 straight months of surviving
It’s been one whole year of pain
I’ve spent all that time, looking for answers
As to why you’d take it all away

Oh the 17th, will never feel the same
It won’t feel the same
It won’t feel the same
It’s been nights and days of crying
And hours of pleading my case
Now I spend all my time, tryna recover
And see that I’m not to blame

You took my love, you took my family
You took my friends, you took my memories
You took my consent

You took my love, you took my family
You took my friends, you took my memories
You took my consent

It’s been 12 straight months of surviving
It’s been one whole year of pain
I’ve spent all that time, looking for answers
As to why you’d take it all away

12 straight months of surviving
It’s been one whole year of pain
I’ve spent all that time, looking for answers
As to why you’d take it all away

Oh the 17th, will never feel the same
You took my love, you took my family (It won’t feel the same)
You took my friends, you took my memories
You took my consent (It won’t feel the same)

You took my love, you took my family (Same)
You took my friends, you took my memories
You took my consent
Oh the 17th It won’t feel the same
