Many grounding techniques are rooted in the senses as a way to remind ourselves and our bodies that the present moment is safe. For example, one of our favorite grounding techniques is 5-4-3-2-1 whereby you say, out loud, 5 things you see, 4 things you feel, 3 things you hear, 2 things you smell, and 1 thing you taste.
